From the very beginning, all the odds were against Bella Gordon. Her father was in jail and while her mother had quit drugs for Bella’s sake, she relapsed shortly after Bella was born. Her childhood wasn’t entirely abysmal though. Bella was born on June 13th, 1986 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Her father wanted Bella and her mother to live comfortably while he was away and set Bella’s mother up with some cash and a house. However, the perfect suburban home that Bella’s father had picked out for them began to slowly deteriorate as Bella’s mother’s drug addiction worsened. Eventually, Bella’s mother found herself in a heap of debt and was forced to move elsewhere with Bella.

Heavily under the influence of drugs, it made sense for Bella’s mother to move them to the nearest city, Philadelphia. The rent was cheap and the drugs that her mother depended on so much were much more accessible in Kensington. Kensington frightened five-year-old Bella. It was a cosmic change of scenery. And shortly after their move, Bella’s mother overdosed and passed away, leaving Bella all alone in the Philadelphia Badlands. None of Betty’s relatives wanted to claim her. They didn’t want anything to do with her problematic parents or their offspring. This forced Bella into the foster care system.

Bella spent years in and out of foster homes. She eventually found the right family and home for her. She was fortunate enough to be adopted by a fairly well-to-do family who lived in Rittenhouse, a much more posh area of Philadelphia. But growing up in the Badlands was traumatizing and Bella wanted nothing more than to leave the state itself. She used this as motivation in high school. At age sixteen, she graduated early. Afterwards, she decided to attend Columbia University.

Bella's college experience was typical. She joined a sorority during her freshmen year and regrettably drank out of a lot of red Solo cups. But it was a short-lived experience. Bella graduted from Columbia early as well. She was a bright, young woman set on making a much better life for herself. Bella promised herself that she'd never return to her "old" life.

A year later, Bella decided to move to Boston for her Master's degree. Upon earning her Computational Science and Engineering M.S. at Harvard University, she began working as a Computer Forensics Analyst for the Boston Police Department. However, Bella eventually grew complacent and felt drawn to the West Coast. In 2012, she finally decided to request a transfer and move to San Francisco, California. However, certain circumstances eventually led Bella back to Boston.

Later in 2018, she found herself magically back in the Bay Area where she once attended Stanford University for her doctorate degree. Confused and distraught, Bella decided she would no longer allow unusual events to simply unfold and go either unnoticed or unaddressed but rather investigate them just as Barbara Gordon would.
